I first discovered El Compa Negro and Kap G in conjunction with each other on Poet Lupe Mendez‘s Instagram page. He noted that the two artists represented intersectionality at its finest. Kap G, a Mexican American rapper who grew up in Atlanta with majority Black Americans, rap-sings “trap” music and sounds a lot like Future. El Compa Negro, an African American Corrido and Banda singer, embraces Mexican culture.
Music is one of the ways that people connect and I love the community bridges that these artists are building.
Check out performances by both of these artists!
